Real Madrid new signing injured in their 7-3 defeat to Atletico

Real Madrid have been dealt with another huge blow as their new signing Luka Jovic was substituted in their 7-3 loss to Atletico Madrid after being complaining of a left ankle injury.

The former Eintracht Frankfurt striker had to be taken out of Saturday Morning’s International Champions Cup defeat at the hands of city rivals Atletico.

The Serbian striker collided with Atletico Madric goalkeeper Jan Oblak in the 24th minute of the game and following several minutes of medical attention, the Los Blancos star was removed from the game and replaced by Karim Benzema.

According to reports in Goal, Jovic appeared in serious pain, and could be set for a spell on the sidelines based on the early look of the injury. Real Madrid were already trailing by three goals at that point of his injury, and the game at the MetLife Stadium would eventually end in a humiliating 7-3 loss for the Los Blancos.

This injury, has contributed to the frustating start for Jovic in his new adventure at Real Madrid after he was being substituted against Arsenal just 10 minutes into the game after Nacho Fernandez was red carded for handling the ball in his own area.

With Jovic’s latest fitness concern, he will be added to the growing list of injured players at Real Madrid after few players suffered setbacks during their pre-season tour.

Earlier this month, former Manchester City winger Brahim Diaz was diagnosed with a knee injury which has kept him out from participating in Real Madrid’s pre-season matches and it will keep him out of action at least a month.

Another player who suffered a major setback is Spanish midfielder Marco Asensio. He suffered a torn ACL against Arsenal, with the 22-year-old potentially out for the entire season.

On Thursday, Real Madrid announced that new signing Ferland Mendy will miss the start of the season and is expected to be out of action for three to four weeks with a thigh problem.

Jovic was a €70 million (£62m/$79m) summer arrival from Bundesliga outfit Eintracht Frankfurt, signing after a tremendous 2018-19 campaign. The 21-year-old scored 27 goals in all competitions last term, helping Eintracht reach the Europa League semi-finals.

Madrid’s preseason will continue with a game against Tottenham on Tuesday followed by Red Bull Salzburg on August 7. Zinedine Zidane’s men open their La Liga campaign against Celta Vigo on August 17.
