Lille reach agreement to sign Super Eagles star as Pepe replacement

French club LOSC Lille have reached an agreement with Belgian Pro League outfit Charleroi to sign Super Eagles striker, Victor Osimhen, in a move seen as the Ligue 1 side’s plan to replace Nicolas Pepe who is set to join Arsenal.

According to BBC Sport football writer, Oluwashina Okeleji, in a post on social media, Osimhen will undergo a medical later today (July 31) in France ahead of sealing a move which could cost as much as €20 million after bonus and add ons.

When asked about his future while in Lagos for the Etebo Summer Camp for young footballers at the National Stadium, Osimhen told journalists he would be making a decision soon.

“A lot of people have called me, Lille is no exception. I have to decide my future in the coming days and wherever I want to go, I think I’m going to make the right choice,” Osimhen said to the press in Lagos.

Osimhen’s imminent move to Lille comes after he made one appearance for the Super Eagles at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Egypt.

That sole appearance in Egypt came in the third-fourth playoff match against Tunisia as competition top scorer Odion Ighalo’s half-time replacement.

Ighalo had scored in the third minute of the encounter to earn Nigeria a 1-0 win over the Carthage Eagles and win bronze for Gernot Rohr’s men.

Osimhen was at AFCON 2019 as a Charleroi player, a club he initially joined on a season-long loan deal from German Bundesliga side, Vfl Wolfsburg, in August 2018.

That loan spell came after the rising striker failed to score in any of his 16 appearances in the German top flight for Wolfsburg.

After joining Charleroi, Osimhen went on to score eight goals in 16 league matches for the Belgian club in the first half of the 2018/19 campaign.

He eventually finished his first season there with 20 goals as his performances in Belgium saw Charleroi activate their option to acquire the Super Eagles man.
